Hi,

When was the DME relay replaced last? If the DME is failing, it could be caused the fuel pump to switch off momentarily. The relays cost around £20.

i dont know about that relay u mention.

i went out shortly after making my post earlier and broke down.. just got towed back home. they said the spark is weak and suspected the ignition coil but didnt investigate too much. I have noticed that i had problems starting now and again previously so i tried charging my battery but it was already fully charged when i put it on the charger.. so maybe it is the coil or sumthin else electrical??

Buy a spare DME relay and keep in in the car as I have been told

Make sure you get a 968 one. Some muppets selling the old ones on ebay. Check spark plug condition as well as they don't last as long as they should. Check your distributor & rotor arm also. Coils still possible as they don't last forever. Put one on mine but DMEs favorite.

968 one was revised so that it lasts longer. 944 one will work but isn't as good. From Porsche they sell you th 968 one for the 944.

Just to confuse the issue the new ones have a 993 part number
99361522700 to be precise.

othere possible reasons could be idle control valve, or the crank shaft sensors.
i have seen those symptoms before and it was crank shaft sensors on 3 cars and a idle control valve on another.
hope this helps.

thanks, i've ordered the exact same part no. you gave me. i should get it monday. i'll keep it as a spare if its not the problem.. or i'll use it anyway and keep my old as a spare since other forum members have said that 1's better.

my old one has part no 944.615.227.00. it dont rattle like a broken relay usually does.. and the contacts look clean. anyway i'll try the new one i have coming.

crank shaft sensors are located at the rear of engine on the upper right side where the bell housing attaches.
idle control valve is a pig as it is located under the inlet manifold , you can see it through the gaps in the manifold it is a cylinder about 2inch by 3 inch and has a rubber hose on either end. to get it out , you really have to remove the inlet manifold.

as for testing them, unless you have spares and try fitting to identify the problem part i would bet it is ellectrical and would suggest a specialist take a look.

hope this is of help.
