Lo all, mr lucky here. I thougut I'd run the car to work today just to check everything is ok before going to have the cambelt change tomorrow. Got in started car and clutch pedal went straight to floor zero resistance whatsover. I have never had any troublwe with the clutch which one week ago was as strong as ever.

Is there something that may have snapped / come unclipped etc on a 944 Turbo or is this a master or slave cylinder gone as has been suggested to me. I know we have some proper mechanical gurus out there and as you know I'm not one of them.

I'm also now stuck to get it to the garage who fortunately is only about 20 miles away but its still going to need a tow ( or presumably lift)

Regards Mas

Almost certainly slave or possibly master or pipe. Feel the clutch pedal & just above it, is it wet? If it is then master otherwise almost certainly slave.

TBH I had you in mind for an answer :P Ta, I just called the AA and if I pay the upgrade to homestart they will pick up with no other extra fee . In my mind a bargain as it gives me a tow , a years cover ( on all three cars) for 88 pounds.

So Appointment booked 12 till 2 to pick up the car and take it to Toni at Carrera Engineering, who I was booked in with tomorrow anyway re the Cambelt. Might blow the Cambelt budget so we'll see what it comes too first. :bom:

Cheers

Mas

Mine did this after trying to bleed the clutch system. Turned out it was the slave cylinder which was corroded inside and the piston was stuck.

It may be something nice and simple like an air bubble in the system or the slave or master has died.

I'm no mechanical guru either Mas but I did once see an episode of The Garage on Discovery turbo and they had a 944 in with the same problem and after trying everything else it turned out to be the clutch fork.

Would that be the Black Lux that was shown as the 9th most interesting car they ever had in , in the highlights episode on yesterday ! I was so proud for the 944 family lol

I know we love our 944's but with numerous Ferraris , Classic jags and Aston Martins I was rather amazed that a 944 Lux made their top ten.

I'm home now and waiting for the AA man to arrive and see how narrow the track and turning area to my house are, I rolled the car out of the garage to be helpfull and have now blocked the track as its stuck on an incline oops :?

Is there a tow hitch on the front of the 944 , I was going to drag it just 20 feet out of the way but I looked under the car and all I can see is an undertray , I cant see a hitch anywhere ?

I am pretty sure there is one Mas ... I think it is behind a plastic circle? Or does it not have the plastic cover on? Somewhere low on the front from memory. Not had a 944 for 10 years, so memory fading..

Baring in mind its a turbo and has this wap round front end , I still cant see one. I did find a thick screw in ring in the toolkit though maybe it screws in somewhere in the frnt vent I have no idea.

Doesnt matter now as it will go to the garage but , I looked in the footwell behind the clutch and there is a rubber boot where the thng goes through the bulkhead/firewall. You can jsut see what i assume is the master cylnder and it is very rusty round it. The rubber boot has a very small amount of wet round it ( inside the footwell) I assume that isnt normal ?

Oh and I just looked in the reservoir for clutch flud ( not expecting to find any) , guess whats missing heheheh

Still waiitng for AA who just phoned from 20 miles away tutt tutt

Regards Mas

I believe there's a plastic cover in the middle of the slot just above the number plate that the towing eye screws into.

Hi Mas, according to my drivers manual on the 944 turbo, before screwing in the towing hook, grip the black plastic cover in the centre of the cooling air inlet slit above the number plate with your thumb and index finger, turn to the right and remove.
Hope this helps?

Just been out and checked my S2 for you. As Bruce says, it's in the middle above the number plate, but it's just a push on, didn't have to twist, fingers round the back to unclip and pulled it off.

Ta Mas

I feel quite chuffed with myself now :D as all I seem to do is ask questions on here, it was nice to be of use for a change.
Now if any one needs any advice on putting fires out, stand up comedy or drinking heavily feel free to ask

Just thought I'd add had a phone call from Toni , the Master and slave both show weeping but it appears the Master was the culprit. Both will be changed tomorrow and I'm going to have the hard fuel lines replaced as previously discussed plus a brake pipe.

As folk say you cant run an old 944 on peanuts and I intend to keep her looked after properly.

Cheers

Mas
