Lo all, if you wanted a track car which would get you round the track the quickest of the three and you were talking low budget as it was purely an extra Porsche for a couple of track days (save risking your regular one) , which budget buy would be the best.

1) 924s 2) 944s 3) 944 2.7.

I ask as I think there are differing opinions though I have an inkling what I would go for. This would theoretically be just buy it, check brakes etc were O.K and have some fun not a major project.

Cheers Mas

Preparing a car for track properly costs big money. Cheapest is to buy one that somebody else has spent 10K+ on sorting for track. Whatever it is. You often see track cars sell for a fraction of there preparation cost. There were a couple on autotrader that would fit the bill.

i disagree - you dont need to spend big money to have fun at track...

i am guessing that it not going to be a serious every second counts kinda car, else you would start elsewhere and not use the words "low budget" and couple of trackdays...

if you want any advice or prep work, give me a call...

I am being a fairly smart chap :bom: that preparing a track car
'properly' would be expensive , and yes I was thinking a bit if fun.
Plenty of folk roll up in a 'road car' don't they, but one they just use for the track and not much more.
I only posted to see what other folk might prefer for their ' fun on a track extra Porsche' nothing more serious tha that TBH. Yes I do fancy one and JJ is of course quite right I have already kept my eye on the small ads for ages and been tempted by a couple but we'll see. Lke I said I just really find the 'which one is more ideal' the interesting question no more than that. If I do go for one I'll run it by you demon cheers :P

I would like to get a cheapish 924S and prep it for track fun.
Small and light, but with a large engine, with some room for tweeks.

I dream about fitting an 3.0 lump into the 924 body. I am talking to a guy who has had one sitting around for a few years. Hopefully i can talk him into selling it later this year.

If you had slightly more funds the best track weapon would be a 968 cs - but these defo are costly....I miss mine very much.

924S IMO. Lightest of the lot for one, which is great attribute to have on the track.

I'd say a 944S on a 2.5 Lux gearbox would come second in my choice. IMO I'm not sure the 2.7 would be too hot compared to the others. I know one specialist said they preferred the S to the 2.7 (they reckoned the 2.7 ran out of the puff in the higher rev range, which is where the car will spend most of its time on a track to be frank).

Maybe an S2 on a 2.5 gearbox...

Any porsche!!!!!! :-)

1984 944 2.5 bought for £150 supplied much fun and track action until it went pop, which was my own fault.

1979 924 2.0 bought for £250 and fitted with Rollcage again still going.

All running standard brakes and suspension.
