I've been using the '44 all through the current bad weather without incident but this morning had a bit of trouble.

Car started first time despite -8 temperature and ticked over for 15 mins before setting out. About 5 mins into journey she started running running very erratically - similar to MAF failure I suffered in the 928 last year.

Settled down after a few minutes and ran fine but then started again so I turned round and left her at home.

I'm hoping MAF sensor or something frozen up and will resolve itself but any thoughts welcome

Paul

Hi, similar thing happened to me. Car started ok but when engine was under load started missing and juddering like a right Donkey. Dropped into my local Indy had a listen, cleaned the distributor rotor put new plugs in and Hey Presto purrs like a Kitten and all for £20. Now thats what i call customer service.

Good service indeed. My plugs, dizzie cap etc changed on service 2,000 miles ago so this isn't the problem. Happily the old girl has not been any trouble since. I can only think the extreme low temperature caused the MAF sensor to play up or the electrics had got damp.

Anyway she seems fine now so I'll assume she just fancied a day at home :D

Sure it wasn't just icing. When the temp drops really low fuel can begin to freeze. Or even just the MAF could have temporarily frozen due to the cold air being drawn in. Once cars fully warm after half an hour it's less likely. Used to have a Nova that suffered from carburettor icing & was underivable below -4 until it was fully warmed up. Difficult to achieve when it won't run! (Webers.)

It may be worth cleaning out the MAF as stated in Clark's guide.

But I have a suspicion that it could be your HT leads. Majority of S2s these days seem to be on their originals which are arcing most likely these days. You will be able to see if they are when you prop up your bonnet at night time and see blue sparks being 'leaked' out of the HT leads.

Plug leads would be my thought as well.
