Post subject: | Newbie - Engine oil light |
Hello - I have just registered for memebership and I am awaiting the 'pack'. I have a 1989 944 colour is blue. I have owned it since May 2007. It has since the day I bought it had the red light in the centre of the dash and the engine oil light lit. The chap I bought it off said it wasn't an issue it was the sensor or wiring that was at fault. He supplied the part to hopefully resolve. Has anyone had a similar problem, I was after advice on how difficult the job is as I fancy tackling it myself. Any tips would be great. Thanks. |

Not difficult, but you'll need a biggish spanner, can't remember exact size. Link to testing it here http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/elect-19.htm |

I presume we're talking about the engine oil level light... if so, first make sure you indeed do have an engine filled to the right level with oil!! ![]() If it is the engine oil level sensor that's at fault, it's not the big nut - it's the triangular flange held on with 3 x bolts which need a 8mm spanner (I think). You'll need a new gasket however that's about it - it's simply a case of of removing the unserviceable item and replacing it. Don't forget to drain the oil first! Good opportunity to change the filter as well - if you've never worked on them before, you'll be cursing when you find how fiddly and messy that bit is! However, can I caveat all that - this applies to the turbo engine and I presume that it's the same on NA. |

If it is the engine oil level sensor that's at fault, it's not the big nut - i thought you found that in the drivers seat ![]() |
