Hi All,

Happy New Year to all!

My boot light has been working intermittently for the past couple of months now. When I open the boot, sometimes the light comes on instantly. Sometimes it can take about 30 secs to 1 minute to come on. Is there a little microswitch somewhere that needs a bit of oil?

Cheers,

Ben :bounce:

Happy New Year Ben!

Mine is the same.
I think that the switch is built into the struts that lift the hatch. I think it is adjustable, but I've never tried. I put mine down to lack of use, so if it doesn't improve when I start using the car more, I'll do something about it.

Happy New Year Simon.

Where abouts on the strut is it? I can see around 4 female spade connectors but assume these are for the rear screen heating element. I can hardly say mine is due to lack of use as my car is my daily driver and I'm loading test kit in and out of the boot a couple of times a week if I'm working off site.

Its one of those odd ball faults. Sometimes it comes on straight away, sometimes not.

Switch is usually on the right hand strut near the top and is just a copper contact which slides down the strut and when it makes contact with the metal strut insert completes the circuit and the light comes on. It is easily knocked out of position and needs to be re-fitted, another problem is the cable connection which due to the movement of the hatch weakens the connection so this may need to be remade.

Spot on David. The wire had snapped on mine where it went into the spade terminal. I have soldered it back on and normal service has now been resumed.

Hopefully Ben's will be as easy to fix.

Hi All,

Finally managed to find a bit of time to take a look at this intermittent boot light problem. Turned out the male connector was quite tarnished and the female spade connector was quite a 'baggy' fit. Cleaned male connector up with emery paper, pinched up the female spade connector for a tighter fit and put a drop of oil on the copper strip and cleaned all the accumulated crap off it. I also adjusted the positioning of the copper strip and hey presto, light now working a treat everytime. I love these little jobs. :D

Cheers,
