Post subject:  oil pressure reading

Hi

Have a 2.7l [1989] 944. On way home yesterday the oil warning light on the oil pressure guage came on. However the guage still read 4. stopped and checked for leaks and oil and no leaks and oil was up to the mark. At same time the brake fluid and brake pad warning light also came on. If the ABS had come on I would have had a full house !!!

After I restarted the car the brake warning lights did not come on but the oil light stayed on guage still read normal at 4. Any advice please. Is this an electrical problem, guage problem, or an oil pressure problem.

Have I got the same problem as cocacola ?? sorry did not read that message before writing. Have not checked any bolts as it was dark when I was coming home. thanks

Confused! when you say the oil pressure gauge came on do you mean the oil warning light, exclamation plus oil level message?
If it was it indicates low oil level in the sump & if the oil level is OK then it could be the sender is dying

Hi
There is a red light at the bottom of the guage which I thought would only come on when the guage needle fell to 0. However, this came on when the needle still read 4. The oil light on the left hand side of the panel may have come on but is not on now. The centre warning bar at the top of the panel also came on. Had a problem with the oil warning light on the left coming on and this appeared to be associated with the sender, one of the connections was loose. Tried to change the sender but could not get to it [what do you need to take off, is there a special tool ??]

Hope its just the sender and will try to change this on Thursday.

Any other comments, grateful for your prompt reply, still want to attend the South west Xmas lunch on Sunday but can't drive the car so may have to turn up in my van, not the same thing!!!
