Hi

Can anyone confirm whether all 944 15 inch teledial wheels will fit my car. have been offered some wheels but not sure what year 944 they have come from.

also has anyone used South west Wheel Repairs in Exeter, and are they any good.

thanks. Laurance

Probably not.
The 86 cars used a different offset of wheel and you cannot fit them on a 2.7.
Recently had a 2.7 through my hands and wheels on that were 16' Teledials.
CAn you find out the offset on the wheels you are intersted in?

Stephen

If I'm right wheels before 86 had approx 23mm offset.
Wheels after 86 (when abs was coming in) carry approx 52 offset.
You can check the part number on PET

I keep thinking of putting later offset wheels on my early car with spacers but have been told it will stress the bearings :?:

Hi. Wheels are from a 1987 car not sure whether it had ABS. Is that the critical thing, also don't know the offset is it stamped on the wheel somewhere??

thanks. Laurance

Check the marking on the back of the wheel.
My brother tried some wheels off an 86 car onto a 2.7 and the stuck well outside the arches,
He could not even drop it down off the jacks.

As stated above, later wheels should have 52 stamped on the back along with the rim width.
From memory the 15inch teledials from my 1986 944S were stamped 15 x 7J ET 53 (or similar)

ive been told previously that wheels from a 87 car will be 52.5 offset wether its got ABS or not, thus will fit a 88 2.7. my car is a 88 2.5 and came with 52.5 offset 15" teles.

Basically if the outside of the rim is roughly in line with the outside of the centre part.
It is a late Teledial wheel and will fit your car.
If the centre sits around 1 1/2" back from the rim it is an early teldial and wont fit your car.

Series one 944 wheels will have a 23mm offset.
1986 model year series two 944 'telephone dials' will also have a 23mm offset.
1987 model year - 1989 model year series two 944 'telephone dials' will have a 52.3mm offset, irrespective of whether the car has ABS.

You need to check the wheels, the offset will be written on the rim, but the majority of 'dials are later offset types. If you do buy the far rarer 1986 type then it wont be the end of the world, because theyre still worth a good deal more (there was a time when they were worth £300+ Vs. £100) and youll always find a buyer for them.
