Hi
I was after some advise on replacing some rusted areas on the bottom of the rear wings where they join the sills on my 89 944 turbo.
Can you get repair sections or do they have to be fabricated.If they are avalaible where is the best place to buy or to avoid completely.Also has anyone used anyboby in the sussex area who can do the repairs to agood standard.

If there was enough interest, I could probably get these manufactured and a run of them pressed out.

I have been thinking about doing the same for 944 Sill's as they are becoming more common to rust and the genuine ones cost a small fortune.

These are available from various sources, not sure where mine came from as the garage ordered them in with the sills. They weren't a fortune though. Jon didn't think OPC sills were that expensive as I'm sure they were fitted to mine? This was 2 1/2 years ago though.

I would be interested to know more about this too. The front of the rear arch (driver side) looks like it might need a bit replacing. I did a little searching and found some fibreglass bits.

I wouldn't use fibreglass. It's not a big deal to fabricate new parts for any bodyshop that knows what there doing. Be very careful who you deal with. There are some real rogues in this business! Don't I know it.

edit. Seen some new panels for sale. Ebay I think. Rear wings at least in primer.

Bad, it would be hard to stop the metal rotting again as with a pop rivetted joint, flexing will always let in moisture! Keep an eye out for good secondhnad wings, they are out there if you keep an eye. You can also transplant the bottom of a normal bumpered car onto a Turbo/S2 PU bumpered one.

I am amazed and horrified that the sills can rot so extensively. In my ignorance I had thought that galvinisation would prevent the worst of the rot. Is there a way to help prevent this, would the injection of wax oil or similar by drilling a hole through from the wheel arch work. Has this been tried?

You aren't the first to be "Surprised"by this :mrgreen:
If you remove the black grill by the door latch you can check sill condition with a torch & also spray your favourite potion down there. BiltHamber seem to win all the awards for rustproofing. Try www.bilthamber.com
