Hi All,

The leaver on my 944 door handles have started to stick against the handle when I open the door. You have to pull the leaver back out again before you can lock/unlock the door. Does this just need re-greasing? and if so what should I use and where should I apply it? I could just spray it with a bit of WD40, but that always dries out and stops working quite quickly, but I've never quite figured out what to use instead!

Cheers

WD40 works for a short while as you've found. Might be worth trying spray white grease althogh cleaning it up afterwards will be a pain.

I used silicone spray bought from Lidl.
Excellent stuff - bike shops might have it too.

The only pain with Silicone anything is getting it off the paint should it require any paint work. Halfords sell it as well.

I use spray grease for motorcycle chain lubrication.

I also use motorcycle chain lube, which goes where you want it then sticks like glue so no running or fling off, also great for lubing the wiper linkage at the drivers side which gets wet when it rains and you don't need to remove any parts to do it.

Cheers all, I think I'll try to get some motorcycle chain lube. I guess that'll work on some other areas like the headlamp mech and the door hinges and stays? Do I need to be careful about getting it on the paint work or is it fairly safe?

As long as you wipe it straight off you should be fine.

It's also great stuff for lubing the balljoint on the wiper arms mechanism. That tends to get washed dry by water running off the windscreen and eventually your balljoint wears out and pops out of the mechanism :x
