Okay you guys. My '44 has just failed it's M.O.T. for the 1st time (in my hands) on the front N/S wishbone balljoint.  I've located a used one at a Porsche breakers near me (Pro 9) for £80. Do you think it's worth buying a used one or buying a refurbished one from Hartec, (£175 + VAT + P&P) Club Auto Sport (£148 + VAT) or Porscheshop (£159.80 + VAT)? I only have 10 days to get it fixed and back in for it's M.O.T. or I'll have to pay for another M.O.T. test. Thanks in advance, Kev. |

most refurbed wishbones only have a 2 year warranty, can pick up 2nd hand off ebay, see you later |

Yeah, I'm thinking £80 for a used one is less than half of a refurb. So even if it only lasts until the next M.O.T. I'm getting a better deal, eh? It's nice to have new shiney parts for your Porsche, but nobody's gonna be looking at my wishbones. Has anyone replaced one of these wishbones themselves? I've had a look in the Haynes manual & it doesn't look too hard to do. |

You can buy ball joint rebuild kits from the States http://www.rennbay.com/ball-joint-rebui ... 30_48.html I have bought other bits from Rennbay and their service is very good. |

Simple job but you wil need a wheel alignment afterwards. If you are not going genuine, Hartech have the best reputation. Rich |

As my Grandad always said (GRHS) buy it cheap buy it twice. |

I would go for the Hartech ones. Not heard of any failing yet. Think there are some Chinese copy parts but there probably carp. Not having much luck at the moment are you.

I've made a decision to buy a refurbished wishbone from Porscheshop. I've chosen this route because a used one could be any amount of years old and may fail at any time. I chose to buy from Porscheshop because they are local so I can collect, plus we club members get a 10% discount from Porscheshop. It was quite an easy job to remove the wishbone, but I think it was helped by me spraying all the bolts with WD40 24 hours before starting the job. |

Mine has a pair of Hartech wishbones. I'd installed a replacement ball joint kit 2 years ago but it lasted all of around 5-6 weeks. I'd red of Barry Harts research on the refurbing on Pistonheads & he seemed to know what he's talking about. The delivery was quick & they were around £175 each exchange. His delivery was quick & they installed very easily. He also replaces the front bush as well with a stiffer one. Don't forget that once done you'll need to recheck the suspension alignment after, this makes an unknown s/h one a possible expensive pain. |

Got the new wishbone from Porscheshop this mornin'. I just need to fit it & get it down the M.O.T. before my 10 days run out. Porscheshop have quoted £75 for the suspension alignment. Anyone out there know of anyone midlands based who could beat that?

Well, the new wishbone went on quite easily. It passed the M.O.T. no prob's. I've booked it in with Porscheshop to have the suspension done on the 8th March. It should take about half an hour. Is it okay to use it whilst I wait? It seemed to drive fine on the way to and from the M.O.T. station. |

It should be OK assuming you don't do millions of miles in that time. Keep an eye on the tyres feathering or knocking the shoulders off the tread. |
