Post subject:  Wheel help again - which wheels

Ive been looking long and hard for a set of original 16" early offset Tele-dials for my car.
I'm mad on originality and my car came with 17" Replica cup 3 wheels made byMile Miglia. Apparently these are rare as they dont need spacers to fit an early offset car like mine.

Ive managed to find a set of original Tele-dials now, but trying to be clever, i contacted the previous, previous owner of my car and asked for some pictures of the car with teledials fitted.
Thank you Jon for sending these over.

Problems is, now i don't know if the original wheels will make the car look less aggressive. Mrs Rav has told me that the car looks better with the 17" wheels, Baby Rav 1 says the 17" wheels and baby Rav 2 doesn't care.

What do you lot think?

Not a great lover of teledials & actually prefer the D90. Would like a set of Fuchs in late offset but they are mega money from the US.
Personally I prefer yours on the cups.

I've never liked teledials either and think your's looks good on what you've got. If you what something a bit more inkeeping with the period what about a set of cup1's, I'm not sure if D90's would need big spacers to fit.

You cant get Fuchs wheels in the later offset unfortunately: they only suit 1986 pre-ABS offset Turbos. There is one other (part number Fuchs) wheel, beyond the 951 prefixed parts, which will fit over the brakes on the front of a 944 Turbo, but theyre rarer still (the difference is the increased backspace in the 951 parts).

I prefer the ATS 16" 'dials personally. The car will look a good deal more aggressive if you re-index the rear torsion bars, making the sills level; you can also add series one studs and spacers to the rear to fill the wheel arches because they arent sensitive to it (unlike the fronts).

I am glad Porsche are bringing those back ... I have thought for a long time Porsche should go a bit retro. Be nice to see a retro car like some of the recent American muscle cars which are great examples of what can be done now. (ie Challenger)
I havent liked a 911 since the 964 to be honest as they are just too far off the original for me.

It certainly does look nice. I had 8" & 9" Fuchs with crested centres on my early hillclimber (in 1995). If I tell you how much (little) I sold them for then I will probably start to cry...

Simon , I might be misreading your reply or RAVs bit but RAV does have a pre ABS so wouldnt he in fact be able to get Fusch , forgive me if I have misunderstood.

Rav I'm glad I'm not alone , your car looks far better to me as it is , and I dont want to insult others who have a car with Tele's but i honestly think they make it look less 'aggresive' as you fairly describe . Im not mad on your twists but much prefer the look as is :blackeye:

I swear I'll arrive at the NEC on Sunday and get taken out by a sniper hired by a Tele owner

Mas,

Dont worry mate, even i am loosing my love for tele dials. You boys are right, the cups take ten years of the car.

I thik i will give the teles a miss unless i can get the set and keep as a winter set?

My car is suited to Fuchs alloys, however, these are Hens teeth rare, and command much money.
The 911 boys have realised that if they buy the early offset fuchs they get more room behind to put big brakes etc behind. Hence values have been going through the roof. I was quoted £3k for a set of 7 and 9's recently.

Cars built between 1981 and August 1986 will be able to use Fuchs wheels. Any of those car which have Brembo brakes (whichll mostly be 1986 model year 944 Turbos) will need far less common and more expensive wheels which have sufficient clerance (backspace) for their calipers.

Some Fuchs 7" or 8" wheels will fit normally aspirated MY87> cars, but they wont be suitable, especially at the front, where the steering will be adversely affected..

My teldials (86 Turbo) are being refitted tomorrow after refurb but the Cup 1 reps will be getting refurb next week, the jury will be out on to which ones to go with.
944's do look better with Cup 1's rather then any over Cup variation IMO, sorry i don't like twists on 944's but they look great on 993 and 996.
Mine is a pre ABS turbo early 86 so which Fuch will fit ?

I have a chart csomewhere with the part numbers, widths, offsets and backspaces for all Fuchs wheels, but I dont have it to hand. The ideal wheels will be the 951 prefixed parts. There are some other 16" Fuchs with sufficient backspace, but I dont think Ive ever seen them, so I wouldnt be too hopeful.
