Post subject: | 944 windscreens |
Morning gents, I have bought a 1984 2.5 Auto off a guy last week. Car has been off the road for a couple of months as he could not afford to get it through the MOT as the windscreen was cracked and the battery was dud. Car has been resprayed and has the best underside on a 944 I have seen for a long time. Not a spot of sill rot and perfect jacking points which was nice to see! I have spoken to my friendly windscreen fitter and he actually has a 944 screen in stock that has been on the shelf for ages! He says it has a bonded section round the outside where trim sits in. Is this the correct one for the car????? Car will be up for sale after being MOTed if anyone is interested. Dash has the usual cracks. Have receipts for new belts in 2007 and there is a wedge of other receipts with it. Sun roof is fully functional too. Drivers seat is also very sad looking too so am on th lookout for a couple of good Porsche script seats in linen colour if anyone has them? Alasdair |

Hi Alasdair Stewart Gordon (Scottish RO)says the early pre 86 944's are made from better steel and rot less. He recently put 22 hours of free welding in one of his local members S2 cabriolet that was in for a respray! The oval dash models have a fully bonded in screen. The earlier models scteen is not bonded. If you live in Scotland check with Stewart as he has many contacts and will do anything to help. Stephen |

Thanks for the reply. The car was actually about 500 yards from Staurts house! Alasdair |

Series one cars can use series two windscreens, and they look a lot better for it too! Youll need to clip the trim mountings but after that itll fit right in. You can use a Renault 5 finishing trim too. Ive had a late screen fitted into a number of early cars. Dont pay too much either, even Porsche parts arent that expensive and nothing like the £800-odd quoted by many firms for a 924 / 944 series one screen. |
