Right guys back on the exhaust , I found a place in Enfield via the web called " Torque exhausts " , gave them a visit and wat do I find but some general tuning shop with a dozen staff , a bodyshop remapping and cars from chavved corsas to an Aston Martin with an engine in pieces. Anyway I showed him my car discussed that I fancies 300 BHP car not a 400 plus ![]() and he suggested a full system in 2.5" stainless NOT 3" . His reasoning ( alledgedly) was that 3" was necessary if you go 400 plus BHP but for a 300 to 350 BHP road going car this would lose me low down torque and general flexable use. Is he spinning me a line and trying to flog me a cheeper option and make a better profit or giving correct advice. I will call another specialist and get their option from them but I would rather have an unbiased opinion from someone here. Update called another : MIJ in Walsall tell me " 2 and a quarter if you want more torque and 2.5 if you want more BHP " , 3" is just cos folk think bigger is better. TBH I'm having my doubts now full stop. Help !!!!!!! Cheers Mas |

I witnessed a chat with an owner when I was picking my car up from a specialist. He also said that 2.5" is around the right bore to keep low end torque as the backpressure will help that side of things on a 951. IMO, I'd have said 2 1/4 is a bit small for a 951 considering most hatches these days have a 2 inch bore! |

With an exhaust on any Turbo car I have been told that bigger is better, but there's no point going bigger than necessary. The biggest restriction in the exhaust is the turbo itself and for the best preformance you want the gases to exit the turbo as quickly as possible. Completely different to a N/A car. It's the size of the manifold and turbo that effects the torque and as long as the exhaust is less restrictive it doesn't really have an effect. So I guess if the turbo you are going to use is more restrictive than a 2.5" exhaust then he's right. However I am nowhere near being an expert on this, just an enthusiastic amature, so asking someone like John Mitchell is best. |

Hope I don't sound like I'm repeating myself but I seem to keep recommending JMG a lot at the moment. He's the best guy for all things 944 and when you start talking to him about what can be done to a 944 the £'s starting rolling out the door if you let it (personal experience) ![]() ![]() Andy |

One thing is for sure if there are one or two folk here getting a particular exhaust set up it would be worthwhile having a listen if poss , I will be looking for the nicest sound I can get without it being uncomfortably ( or stupidly) loud and you cant beat actually hearing an exhaust before buying. One problem I foresee is booking a custom made exhaust , havng it fitted and then after driving it thinking " mm I don't really like that " now that would irritate me ![]() Cheers Mas |

Click on the video links on the 3" demonstration video from Fabspeed's website. Jon's is very similar to there's so he says and I've seen the rear silencer and cat back at Jon's workshop, they certainly look FAB. http://www.fabspeed.com/944Turbo.html Andy |

I thought that was quiet! There wasn't a centre silencer in that system so if you do want it quieter you know to go for an exhaust that does. |

Turbo is a rotary mufler. JMG know his turbos. His system is tested & he will tell you what you will get when it's fitted. No Bull***t. Any custom system will be hit & miss unless it's been tested & tweaked. Jon is the Guru for the 951 in this country. Or you can order a system from Linsey racing that will also work but by the time you paid shiping & Vat & duty you might as well go to JMG! Give him a ring & you will soon understand why so many people on here rate him. ![]() |

He works late into the night most nights and he had 35 cars in the yard few weeks ago in various stages of work being done, waiting parts or authorisation to go ahead. Then the sandwich van lady reversed into his own black 944 cabby he had just done work on so he was a bit stressed ![]() |
