New thermostat in ( despite the fact the old one was ok)
Things stabilized now onthe overtemperature front ( but again I was as careful as I could in bleeding it)
Temperature is under control at last but now the rad fan is acting up and staying on forever at low speed but erratic , not always, so sounds like new temp sender needed. Its a long story but I've now three thermostats leftover all of which function!

All that remains is a water leak - which I am pretty sure is from the water pump gasket to the engine. Its not too bad but enough to significantly drop the water level after 60 miles or so. Also the water pump has started screeching , never a good sign. So i'll replace it and do a belt swap at the same time cause the balance belt looks pretty sloppy. Not decided yet if I'll do it myself, its just about in my competence range but I don't have a tensioner gadget and can't do things like put on a flywheel lock as I can't raise the front yet so I'll try and find someone local who can although I don't know many near me as I'm not near anywhere! I'll buy the parts and ask someone I can trust to do it I think.

Back to thinking about the other things - wishbone replacement, front brake refurb, clutch bleeding , rear seat belt fitting, heater, rear shocks , handbrake, radio aerial and so on

Regarding cambelt changes, RPM Technik are near you as are ProMax Motorsport. Besides that, EMC Motorsport are based in Birmingham, but that may be quite a drive for the car in poorly condition.

It does indeed sound like you need a new water pump :(.
