Hi all, I'm thinking about upgrading from my 924 to a 944 and have seen a nice 2.7 Lux, but I'm finding it hard to find any information about the 2.7 anywhere! How do they compare to the base 2.5 (aside from a bit more power, a lot more torque)? Are parts harder to come by? Why did they only make it for such a short period of time? Any info you guys can provide would be much appreciated! Cheers, Car47 |

Nice car to have parts will be no more harder to source than any other car bar the specific 2.7 bits but they are still available from most breakers and OPC's. All you will generally need different when you think about it ar the the engine parts service wise and most will be 2.5 bits anyway. I would not let it bother you go buy one, or the 944 celebration that is for sale on e-bay....lovely car. Good luck Jim. |

Hi Car 47 They are just a more modern improved 944 with slightly more pwer, more torqure, bigger wheels, more mod conns such as central locking, built in alarm and ABSand bigger tyres etc. I cannot recall any of the parts being more expensive. We sold one to guy locally to replace his 2.5 and he feels it a well worth while upgrade. Stephen |

I hear the valves in the head can be pricey but hopefully you won't need to change them! |

The water pump is specific to the 2.7 & is more expensive. Otherwise it is all standard 944 stuff. |

Wether it has any more torque depends on the condition of the engine. Not what they produced when they were new!!! Drive it & then you will know. ![]() |

Rich They are indeed the same. That's my understanding too. As for the they won't produce as much as they used to, nor will a 2.5 ![]() |

Mine makes more than it did when it was new! When I get the new head on will be even better. May need to fabricate some new manifolds to let it breath though. ![]() |

Well I ve read that the 2.7 was a nicer drive than the 2.5 but not much difference in power, just different characteristics. I m annoyed about mine as there wasnt any antifreeze in it so I put some in and its started leaking.Had a top end rebiuld just over a year ago and about 4500 miles so all the front and belts will have to come off again! Bugger! ![]() |
