Its all good folks Porky is up and running, I follwed the Clarkes guide on several different things and got to the fuel pressure regulator, took off an injector lead and its started straight up and runs, apparently when the pressure builds up it knocks out the electric feed to the injectors and cuts the engine out so £20 from Pro 9 in Redditch and its fine so big smiles. Thanks to everyone who participated with suggestions the help on this forum always astounds me your a great bunch many thanks now looking forward to a good drive. |

So just to clarify Frog it was actually the pressure reg that was knack... faulty? Glad it is sorted though this was beginning to drag on

I know that joy of being up and running after going through 12 months of getting covered in oil to get mine sorted. Its a feeling that cant be described. Simon down at pro9 was a source of some invaluable help as were the guys on here when i was having some issues and at one point i had had enough and put mine up for sale but i was persuaded to stick to it and persevere by many people here and im glad i did as there is nothing like puttin the shades on and going out for a spin in the sunshine. Enjoy it and make the most of the sunny days we have left of this year. Shaun |

Good News, glad you got it sorted and cheaply is a bonus! I've seen a few bad injector connections but not heard of that one. Have to remember it just incase. |

Yep it was the fuel pressure regulator, the one nearest the bulk head on the fuel rail. According to Clarkes website when the pressure builds up too much it knocks out the power for the injectors which is why I was stumped when I had a spark and had fuel flowing but the fuel didnt seem pressurised so I looked at the injectors and they said to remove the feed to 1 of them as this will stop the current becoming too high but will allow it to run but on 3 cylinders to test the regulator. Heere the test below- Fuel Pressure Regulator Failure Symptoms: Engine runs rough Engine stumbles or sputters Engine runs very rich - black smoke from the exhaust Engine will not start Engine starts but stalls shortly after startup Noisy fuel pump Noticeable decrease in fuel mileage One of the most common failure modes for the FPR is to fail closed to the point that fuel rail pressure is extremely high. The high differential pressure across the injectors causes them to draw excessive current. The excessive current is seen by the injector drivers which subsequently shutdown. If you have a condition where the car will not start or starts and almost immediately dies, try disconnecting the wire for one (1) injector. Attempt to start the engine. If it starts and continues to run, the fuel pressure regulator is likely bad. Bear in mind that running on only three cylinders, the car will run very rough. By disconnecting one injector, it reduces the current enough to keep the injector drivers from shutting down. |

Well done  Where can you buy these Clarkes guides as I am sure I will need one at some point? I already have the Haynes and it seems next to useless

Glad you got it fixed. Should go better as well now. Mine made loads more power with new one! Well done for sorting it yourself.
