Hi there,

I've just been informed that my clutch is on its way out (ie the dome is going and the clutch will need changing soonish), so I'm now wondering whether to change the box for an LSD unit whilst it's out for the clutch change. This is on my 87 2.5 Lux. Has anyone changed from an non LSD box to an LSD box? or can anyone tell me whether it's worth the bother of changing? I'd probably try to source a second hand lowish milage box from somewhere like Douglas Valley near Sheffield. Any ideas or advice welcome.

Hi :)

I recently added an LSD to my 928....

Is it worth it....the answer is yes if its not too expensive....

But don`t forget an LSD is only active in fairly extreme situations...

Such as when a standing start at high power....

On mine when launching from standing still on Nitrous...I could get an 80 yard long black line from ONE rear tyre...

After the Lsd I now get a PAIR of 80 yard black lines...lol

The difference is that without the LSD , I had to twist the wheel nearly 90 degrees to keep the car straight, with the LSD its more like normal steering...twisting wheel slightly both ways as the rear wheels BOTH grip.

So an LSD WILL give more control in extreme situations but is not really needed for normal driving....

Douglas valley wouldn't be my choice for anything! But. In a lux I don't think it's worth the effort. They don't have that much power & the down side is that they can snatch when cold which isn't nice. Unless your planning a nitrous kit. :wink: If your struggling for grip in a lux you need new rubber!

I have an LSD S2 box in the garage for my Lux when I finally do the engine swap. A standard LSD in a 944 is a plate diff so shouldn't be too grabby, unlike pawl diffs. Given a chunk of cash I'd go for a Quaife diff TBH. But that is about 800quid or so.

But quite agree with JJ a standard Lux wouldn't have enough horses to really need one.

Douglas Valley are nowhere near Sheffield! Theyre in Lancashire: a place Id need a FAR better reason to visit that DVB. In fact, even if DVB were in Sheffield Id go without before dealing with them.

With regards to an LSD: most will be worn out as theyre not particularly hardy and they cost a small fortune to rebuild. Im not sure that youll see any benefit with a normally aspirated 1987 road car either...

Hi,

I also cannot recommend Douglas Valley Breakers. They are absolute sh*te. I called them and gave them a list of a couple of items I wanted. They said they would call me back either way if they had the parts or not. No one called me back. I called them a few days later and the reason no one got back to me was they didn't have the parts. So much for them calling me back!

Beware! I'm glad I didn't use them after all plus the bad feedback people have left them. I'm surprised they're still in business!

Hi Brett,

Noticed you had added an LSD. Got an email back from Porsche about the build of my car and it was fitted with an LSD from the factory. Not standard then on my car?
They also said built in April so must have sat somewhere until registered in August.

Hi Paul :)

Thats good but worth checking....

Jack up the back of the car in middle and with autobox in neutral SPIN 1 wheel and WATCH the other wheel....

If LSD is fitted then BOTH wheels will rotate in the SAME direction....if not they rotate in opposite directions....
