I used to have a 951 (great car), and am now hankering after a 952. Is an S2 a worthy consideration, however, or would it be slightly disappointing in comparison?

Depends on how you like your power, the S2 has it low down, very torquey where the turbo has that top end rush and is ultimately quicker and much easier to tune, the S2 should be more reliable as it is stressed less, 210 bhp from a 3.0L 16V v 250 brake from the 2.5L T 8V. S2's tend to be a little cheaper and a few more around to choose from, where turbo's tend to be specced a little better with all the toys, but to give you somthing to think about, 968's (or 944 S3 as they were originally were going to be called)are selling for little more than good turbo's, 240 bhp from its 3.0 L 16V variocam (Mitsubishi's MIVEC) and are far rarer, seen 3 go for under £7k this winter. I must now declare I am biassed

Very interesting - I hadn't even considered 968s, thinking they were too expensive. But now you mention it...

968 is a lot more modern, arguably better styling, 6 speed box, and 4 models to choose from, plus tiptronic on coupe and cabbie and 240 bhp is only 10 bhp behind the turbo (952)

Hold on though - won't a 968 in that sort of price bracket need a bit of tlc/work, compared with a 952?

Left hand drive 968's are much cheaper than the same spec/condition right hand drives.

I love the look of the 968 very modern, but love the boost of the turbo

i would think of upgrading if they were quicker, but the turbo 968 is rare and i don't believe they did a right hand drive version

968 Turbo they only made 4 of according to what I've read. & all of them were effectively race cars.
Never sure about the appearance of the 968 or 944 S3  The cab is Ok, but the coupe looks a bit strange. Prefer the 944 S2 actually. In terms of power not a lot to it, the S2 produces a genuine 210 BHP whereas 968s only produce 230ish apparently.

Another "biased" view :- if you are hankering after a 952 then go Get one. IMHO Great as they are you may not be dissapointed with an S2 but could still be hankering after the turbo boost (it really is addictive!).
If you need more umph (from a 952) it is relatively inexpensive to get 300+ bhp, quicker onto boost with reliability see http://www.cannell.co.uk/944 UK league for many examples & Hartechs view on the Reliability of the Turbo's
The 8 Valve single cam Turbo engines do not have the Camshaft/follower problems associated with the Twin Cam 16 Valve S2's (or 3's !)
I spent a long time getting info & trying out various models, it's each to his own you have to make your own mind up - go try them out.
I do agree the 968 really looks good & seriously considered one myself, I did get the love bug with a Superb S2 Cabriolet but serious afterthoughts a year on regarding the Actual Driving of the car then brought me to my latest (& probably ultimate) purchase.

Good hunting
Clive

Lindsay where did you get 15(68 turbo's) from? Peter Morgan has always claimed the 4 S's and 2 RS's but then a 5th one (S) turned up in America with full provenance, chassis numbers etc which was confirmed with Porsche as being an original, there are several on the 968uk forum which have been built from CS base's as well as Dutch, German and Norwegian replica's I know of along with a string of supercharged versions, 9meisters being perhaps the comonest but I have never heard 15 before?
Hello and welcome to the forum Clive, lets have some pictures of your turbo on the thread, when are we going to see you at the Bell, theres a meet on Sunday?
