Yesterday I left my 951 with Paul at PSR to get his opinion. I knew I had bought a cheepie and I knew it had a couple of minor oil leaks and other repairs that could be done long term but wanted to know is the car worth saving. Basically I took a calculated risk :P

The short of his exam is , get a cambelt service and get the leaks done at the same time as one is in the same area thus saving 'some' labour. I always intended to have the belts done asap so thats not really a defect cost so to speek. Also the anti roll bar bushes are shot but apart from that the car seems remarkably solid. Under the car seems rot free which is nice.

I was suprised by the exhaust and wondered if it's standard. Googling it ,I see that having a second pipe that bypasses the mid box seems the norm. The exhaust has a large mid section box , well a long one anyway and the second pipe ( no silencer) from the wastegate to the rear box , can you guys tell me is is that the standard exhaust ?.
I wish i'd taken a picture whilst it was on the ramp typical isnt it.

Ive certainly not seen it on 'other cars' , definately an interesting looking set up even to non mechanic me.

I wil get the actual figure to do belt service , oil; leaks and bushes tonight , obviously not pennies but I feel if at all possible this is a car that deserves an owner who does care about her. Maybe she will show her appreciation and be good to me :P

Cheers Mas

If the arms need changing I would be tempted to try them yourself if you are mechanically minded. They really are quite simple to change compared to other marques.

Mas, Great news on the car. It sounds like you've bought a good 'un and its nice to have a knowledged specialist to give it the thumbs up.

Your thread has just given me the confidence to book my car into Steve Bull Specialist cars in Devizes for a health check.

I will start my own thread with the findings, but wanted to thank you :-)

Yep the second pipe you're looking at is probably the turbo downpipe that comes from the turbo wastegate Mas. Change to a 3" size to get a quicker spool up

Well Andy , being an oldie myself lol I'm quite happy with her power at the mo not too sure i need her any faster. I'll probably change my mind when some hot hatch leaves me behind though I must admit

I'll speek to you guys if I start performance modding for sure but it is an old engine so I should be a bit cautious I think !

Rav , Im not suggesting my cars a particularly good one TBH , average and honest would be more accurate heeheh but not a dog ( hopefully). I have fallen for her slightly though , I like the colour of the car a lot more than I thought and I like the wheels. Putting her roughly right is obviously going to cost me around a thousand pounds and thats near what I expected. I will defo be following your progress and Pixie's and hopefully in the not too distant future the three of them will have their photos taken together as well as some other 944's :bounce:

This weekend I have to ' remove the glove box liner ' and find that clip , a 15 minute job apparently but I suspect the person who posted that tip has fixed a few hundred more car bits than me and then some. I'm an electronics man by trade but car fixing I have never done. Even when I was a teenager in my Ford Capri's and my absolute favourite orange and black Talbot Sunbeam TI , Lord I wish I still had that car.

Nuff of mine I have to read re your exploits now.

Mas
