Post subject:  Wheel bearing removal & replace
Does anyone know how hard & time consuming it is to replace a rear wheel bearing? from searching i'm getting mixed views!
from looking fairly straight forward to being a pig of a job!
any comment would be much appreciated

Looking at Clark's garage it looks to be a pain in the arse, but do-able if you can get the hub nut undone.

Whereabouts are you in the country, I may be able to get you a 1 Inch drove ratchet or breaker bar at a discounted rate.

Easy enough job on the 944, but as mentioned above the hub nuts can be proper seized on and a right PITA to budge.

Hi, this was one of the first jobs I did on my '44, not particularly easy but do-able. I used the clarkes guide. You will definately need a 2 foot breaker bar and a decent slide hammer (machinemart have them). I used an electric paint gun to heat the arm up then used the slide hammer to get the old bearing out. Then having left the new bearing in the freezer overnight you can hammer it in using the old bearing to get it fully home. Best of luck!

Both of mine came out fine with judicious use of a hammer and soft punch :?
No heating/cooling required at all.

That was why I was confused :? he is asking about REAR wheel bearings :mrgreen:
