My centre box is starting to fall apart & so needs replacing. Downstream is all stainless. Does anyone have any recommendations for replacements in mild steel, stainless steel or just replacing with a thru pipe? Steve

Not sure that a mild steel one is available outside an OPC & I suggest you sit down when you ask for a price! I think 1100 quid was mentioned once  Most go for stainless, mine is a Dansk & released some more horses, a freerer revving engine & a lovely exhaust note. All for around 150 quid.

What car have you got? Lux, S, S2 or Turbo

With a Turbo just weld a straight pipe in there as you don't need to worry about back pressure. Do the same with a normally aspirated car and you may lose some low down power.

it's actually a 1988 924S, mechanically similar to early 944 - So i'm hoping to benefit from some 944 experience. Steve

If you get the Dansk center pipe it's mild steel. Only the back box is stainless. There about £60 from Bert Gear (Berlyn) You have to cut the front pipes as you need the first few inches of the original from the manifold & I don't know if it will fix to your back box or not. You should replace the rubber mounts at the same time. Theres also a gasket between the middle & rear if I remember right.

Interesting I didn't know that! That is why it is relatively cheap.
