Lo all, for the average jo beginner who has never done his own mechanicals which would be better, an electronic version of the workshop manual or a Haines book. Im just wondering if the haynes one might be laid out in an easier to use fashion for the non mechanic ? or would the workshop manual be just as understandable and presumably more comprehernsive.

while I've always been a fan of Haynes manuals and bought one for my 944 its a bit of a joke compared to the workshop manual you can download for free. It bottles out when somethings difficult, very poor photos and no intuition to whats got to be done. Workshop manuals plus things like Clarkes garage are by far the best for working out how to do things. I did print the workshop manual - its a huge set of bits of paper must be well over 800 pages of double sided printing - a monster. Best to print the bits you need only when you need them....!

I've got a Haynes manual and it's not been able to answer one question yet I've had. Canells/Clarkes manual is better and as said print off the bit you need as and when.

The Haynes manual for the 944 is truly dire! It is a very early US car & as others have said glosses over anythig harder than changing a fuse.
The Pork official workshop is 6 lever arch files in my garage take up a lot of space & I'd love to catch up with the german genius who did the indexing system & the wiring diagram. But the information & tech notes are invaluable.

Watch this space, if I get the time there may be a much better manual in a year or so time covering a lot of the common jobs

Use the link to Rick Cannell's site at the top or Promax's site offers it too.
Clarks garage is really good as well.

The haynes manual used to be good in its earlier days however now its more like a car owners manual. The clarkes garage is the best way to go imo...and the forum is always helpful
