Well I ummed and arred but finally decided to buy a 944/51 Turbo , I think its the same colour as pixie's one but since it has obviously had a total ( and quality) respray at some time I have no real way of knowing if its even a Porsche colour until maybe one or two of you guys have seen it.

I did buy a cheepie and to be honest I could have bought any 944 and probably will in the future ( if i enjoy this one) but I got this one as a long term test drive :P

The car has its faults and I intend to fix two of them and play with the car a month or two and then maybe sell it on to another first timer who wants to try one. If its a dog I'll bin it , you might not believe it but I would have no interest in selling on a doggen. so far though it seems to be a a good driver, old needing a few bits but a good driver.

I bought it from someone who took it in part ex and not being totally stupid ( no really !) , I contacted the last owner on the log book since he only sold it 3 weeks ago. He seemd a nice chap and he didnt have to speek to me as there was nothing in it for him.

He told me as far as he was concerned she drives very well the engine doesnt smoke and the gearbox and clutch are fine. He agreed about the faults I had been told about so at least all seemed true.

I drove it back 70 miles in scorching sunshine and stuck on the M4 and M25 yet the needle never went over the 1st white line by more than 2 mm . The car doesnt seem to smoke at all though it doers smell a bit rich from o/s. As for dropping it in to 3rd gear well don't they pull in 3rd, it is a sudden surge though you dont have to do it you can happily poodle in ahigher gear. I didnt really care to drive too fast until its checked over better but the car did rather grow on me in that 70 miles despite the hot air !

What i knew did need sorting is the heater is always on , I.E hot air only. I know the aircon might not work but clearly something is a miss to blow out hot air and not the usual luke warm I.E cold but not aircon'd air.

Its bloomin awfull to have it blown at you so can anyone point me in the right direction to start looking re that one please ?

I'll post a couple of pics tomorrow as I'm at work at the mo sadly :P

Regards Mas

Well done mate, there are lots of threads about heating blowing hot air and how to fix it in the '44 section.

Well done Mas, Welcome to the turbo club you'll like it here 8) 110 mph in 3rd gear is pretty good, you could lose your license very easily though

What model did you end up with. Did you get an S/SE in the end?

Too true to that !

No it wont be the last one. However I hope I get to meet a few folks and there cars not just bug them with questions. I am in north Herts quite near to Stanstead airport so if you need to park a 944 whilst you fly be nice to me :P
Failing that it is nice here anyway as long as you like country road rural

It is a bog standard as far as I can tell 1986 944 turbo apart from the non standard alloys
( I know at least one person here won't approve :)
In its defence they are non standard but are genuine 80's retro non standerd not modern. I know a lot of Porsche and other cars had them fitted in the 80's.

I promise pics will be on tomorrow , I'm still at work as we speek which is unusual as I'm normally only in the office daytime.

Im actually going to some local classic car show tomorrow in Bishops Stortford , my missus found it in the paper and they claim 500 cars ? , personally I find that hard to believe.

Cheers Mas

Maz,
I imagine those seats would come up ok with some good leather hide food - liquid leather gets good reviews I think.
Your coolant tank looks awfully brown - signs of a problem now or in the past? It could just be old but they do leak eventually.
Sorry can't help you with the hose -they leak too sometimes!
I like Azevs - they come up often on e30 bmws so are period I think. Never seem them on a 944 but I'd dtill be inclined to find a set of D90s at the correct size.

That looks pretty tidy. Well done. 8) Seats will look a lot better when there clean. Gliptone leather cleaner Then conditioner. You could fill the cracks with liquid leather if you want to go mad. Quite like the alloys. Bit different. :)

Mas, to answer your question in the last pic. They are the various type approvals & compliance that the car is approved to. This is why companies like Porsche spend multi millions on development. And very often different rules in the US & Europe & Asia.
I was looking at the compliance for one of our power products the other week & the different country compliances range to around 25 different country codes.

Big discussion on seat restoration here http://forums.tipec.net/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=5105 I saw Clichy993 seats other day and they were fantastic. Furniture Clinic repair page here http://www.furnitureclinic.co.uk/Leather_Repair_Kit.htm

Another Zermatt Silver car, Rav has just got one to. You won't lose your car in a car park with those wheels, very retro 8)

As the sig says 80's man 80's car ! and those wheels really are 80's.
I would add when I say 80's man I dont mean born in the 80's either
