Post subject:  chasing the radiator fan

been going round in circles after rad fan stopped
Disconnected the rad thermal switch and shorted the wires. Fan started up but a bit slower than I remember
Decided it must be the rad temp switch
ordered one.
wired in the short so I could disconnect it easily each day after travelling to and back from work while waiting for the switch.
then tonight got home and found the fan not running with short in place.
relay was still clicking when I took the short out and put it back in .
Strange
So I checked the connections on the fan while still plugged in 12 V across these but no running fan.

I'm going to have to deduce the fan motor has died it does not have any resistance, a bad sign I guess. Maybe I'll try to run 12 V direct to it tomorrow before buying another fan assy off ebay

Anyone had something similar??

Well it has been spinning for 20+ years. There around £140 from porsche if I remember for a new one. Dismantlers want £40 but no gaurentee how long it will work for. Plenty about. At least it's an easy fix. :)

Sounds like you've had two faults at the same time, always difficult to diagnose! The fans are sometimes fixable by flooding the bearing with oil but as said cough up & buy a new one is the safest way.
