Ok.... i promise this will be my last wheel related question - promise!

What are the optimum late 944 wheels? (not necessarily looks but performance & ride)

D90's - 7/8"
D90's - 8/8" (read somewhere that was the best track set up?)
Cups - 16" staggered?
Cups - 17' staggered?
Other?

Mine currently has very large 17' turbo style 10" rear / 8/9" fronts, unmarked with very new Bridgestones on them - looks great, not sure if these are reps or o.e. Anybody want to consider a trade? my car is a daily driver and i need summer and winter tyre options in the future so want only one set of wheels with two sets of tyres.

Thanks

Graham

Sounds like you could use a set of D90s. *I just* happen to have a set of those shed with almost new toyos

I've been told that the 17" Carrera 2 wheels are about as light as OE wheels come and with lower profile tyres, to keep to same rolling diameter, improve the handling. You will have to change the lower front arm camber mount to the 968 item though.

Good news is they are quite cheap, I picked a set up for £200 with good front tyres. 7" ET55 for the fronts and 9" ET55 for the backs. I haven't tried them yet though because I haven't had the new back tyres fitted.

Design 90s represent the best weight/cost compromise. If you can find a pair of 928 numbered 9" rears to match C2/C4 / S2 8" rears then thatd be ideal.

Even over the C2 wheels? I would agree with you normally, but it appears the D90s are now falling victim to the VW fanboy following (I already have one after my calipers!).

If somebody is selling some D90s or CS wheels in the future let me know :).

What about 8" front and rear? i cant remember where i read that this is a good setup. Would there be any adverse effects of not having staggered wheels - what are the benefits?

I have Cup 3 or turbo twist style wheels. Personally i think they are run of the mill.

I like the look of 944 turbos with Fuchs so may try to find a set of these. But im lead to believe that they cost a fortune.
Im hoping that because my car is a very early turbo it may be able to run smaller Fuchs?

Replica Fuchs are pretty common now, you can even get 17" reps or custom made at Lyndsey Racing.

I'm not sure how heavy they are though? or strength.
