I've just noticed that my car (944s2) has 255 40 17 on the rear and 225 45 17's on the front. (turbo style)

Would these make my steering very heavy? i think they are 10" and 8-9"

Should i sell them and get narrower fronts?

I ran Turbo widths 225/245 on my Lux for a while on standard D90s. The steering was not only heavy but lost some of its precision. Going back to 205s on the front felt much better.

Is it not just the tyres that are the wrong size rather than the rims? I really don't know, it's just a suggestion. However it's a cheaper option if it is.

996 wheels and tyres? The rears are far too wide. Id tyre the rear rims down a little if I were you, because such a disparity is going to adverely affect the cars handling balance (from understeery to neutral into understeer city!).

My S2 runs 255/40/17 rear and 225/45/17 fronts with I believe 9" rear and 7.5" fronts and mine does tramline slightly in bad surfaces but I haven't noticed any handling issues although the steering is heavier than my 924S with 205 on the front but I would expect this. However tyre choice does seem to make a big difference or did to me and I am now happy with Toyo T1Rs front and back which seem to wear well are reasonably quiet and handle brilliantly in the dry and well enough in the wet.

Im about to run my series two car on 993 Winter Cups, which are similarly sized at 7.5" and 9". Im going to tyre the rears down in order that they suit the 944. Monster sized rears are required on a 911, but theyre wholly unsuitable for a 944, especially when youre running on the original 911 sized front tyres.
