Post subject: | Changing The Colour of Minging Seats |
Evening all, I bought a 944 S2 on Saturday and, as you may know from my previous post, it is a bit of a shed and will be an ongoing project. I'm not about to spend as much on it as I have on my 911, but I would like it to look less of a heap. The seats are fairly gruesome and something needs to be done - they should be black velour with white pinstripes, but have faded in the sun to greeny beige with hint of grey in places with white pinstripes. I assume the colour is now gone for good and can't be brought back, so I need someway to make them less vile. Has anyone tried using dye on velour seats, and would it work? I have used it on leather and it was fine, but this might be totally different. Although they are hideous now I don't want to make them worse. Failing that, is there a cheap'n'cheerful way of recovering them, or am I better off buying a new interior off a scrapper? Any comments or other suggestions (aside from "burn it and claim the insurance") are more than welcome. Many thanks, James |

Hi, If it helps the guys at topgrainhides.co.uk are the cheapest I have found for the pinstripe fabric. They quoted me about £90 a metre delivered. Still going to cost a bit to get them recovered though. I was thinking about doing it myself, but not so sure having looked long at hard at my seats. Mine are not that bad, but there are a few holes caused by a previous owners 'hot rocks'! Shame really. Regards Paul |

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated - I'll take a look. However, from what you have said I think recovering them may prove not to be economically viable - £90 a metre isn't cheap, I could re-do them in Laura Ashley curtains for that, and have change! (Although a floral swirly pattern could perhaps be the only thing that would make it look even worse than it does now...) Cheers for the advice, James |

I think I am going to hang out for the right seats on Ebay. I might have a wait a long time though. Funnily enough there is a set matching mine on at the moment, but sadly in poor condition and the earlier type. Never mind ..... I check each day in hope! Good luck with yours! Regards Paul |

Thanks very much for the offer of the seats, but I think I'll see if I can salvage what I've got first before resorting to swapping them. The fabric spray seems like a good idea - realistically I can't make the seats any worse then they already are. It says on the website that "if the cloth will absorb water, fabric spray will work" so I'm going to pop round my mechanics later (who currently has most of the engine strewn across his workshop) and chuck a glass of water over the seats. If it looks like it will work, I'll give it a punt and get some photos of the results. Many thanks for the suggestion. |

thought about this tbh, i reacon it might be because your seats are "plush velour" which stands quite tall. i was thinking of using it on the base of my porsche logo seats, which are quite flat in comparison. my seats are almost mint to be fair, i would just like them to be totally mint ![]() |

Fake leopard skin seat covers, they won't look out of place in Daventry. ![]() |

Whereas if I lived in Woodford Halse, I would need Zebra print seats to fit in.... with matching zebra skin dice on the mirror. Yes, Mr Smallman, leopard skin it is. Or black if I can find some dye that works. Would be interested if a response comes in about why the spray dye wouldn't work - I'll see if I can find some other alternatives as well. |
