Just wondering what these are like to live with and how they compare with a 944? I am considering one as a track day car. Have found a suitable car that will need re-commissioning but could be an interesting winter project Any thoughts welcome Paul ![]() |

From my limited knowledge. Two series of Turbo, later ones are a lot better. The Turbos have limited life & are A. A pig to change & B. normally involve collateral work like broken studs etc. Early 944 suspension in part so lots of bits around to fit. Cheaper engine to fix if it goes bang vs 944 apart from the Turbo itself. I suspect some bits are becoming rare now, not a massive amount built & less support in the US unlike the 944T which is well served. My thoughts ? Buy it & if it goes bang rebuild with a 944 lump. |

turbos had no cooling and didn't last long, maybe make it into a Q car running a 2.5 944 250bhp lump (with plenty of scope to tune ![]() |
