Has anyone fitted 'performance' chips to a 944 Lux?
Any worthwhile gains in performance and fuel consumption noticed?

Stephen

Gone into this in some depth on mine. The best performance gains on the Lux come from restoration & attention to detail using the dyno for reference. First thing is to do a power run to see where you are now. It doesn't have to cost a fortune. If everything else is working right. Iginition, Fuel system etc. When I first got mine it made just 112 at the wheels. Pretty average for these. With better fueling & new rotor arm, cap & plug leads. It made 140. Next a head overhaul now 150. Only now would I consider chiping it. JM garage do a good chip. Good improvement in mid range. Usually very little top end. Cost £200. For another £100 you can have a full remap. (Wayne at chip wizards can remap your original chip.) Which takes account of your current exhaust & engine condition & will always be better. You can sometimes get a bargain from ebay for less than £100 that may be worth a try but without testing on the dyno your shooting in the dark. Few people bother to sort the lux. Shame as it's much under rated. Too many knocking about with as little as 90 at the wheels give the good ones a bad name. :)

Hi JJ,

I was asking on behalf of a chap I know.
He does want to splash out to much money.
I told him to buy a 944 Turbo as they are so good value at the moment.
Then he buys a Lux and wants it go faster...
The actual car in question is a fit example anyway.

Stephen

So what does it do at the wheels? Cost him £40 to 75 to find out. Bet it well under oem power.
