I'd guess as winter tyres he won't be driving it THAT hard anyway
Personally I'd go for a narrower rear though as you'll get better tyre temp & therefore traction. But the wheels will fit.

These are from a 996 C2, would need to put them on my S2 as winter wheels. 7J x 17" 0-ET55 and the rears are 9"J-ET50 Tyres are 255-40-17 and 205-50-17 Please let me know if they are suitable before i start bidding. Thanks |

The fronts are virtually on the money. Rears will stick out a little beyond where they should be (ET77) but thats not an issue, because they should fit. 9" rears with an offset of 65mm fit with plenty of room to spare on my series two car. I will venture a guess that only Turbos will be able to accommodate overly-fat rear tyres though. |

Itll handle terribly with mismatched tyres like that though: 205 fronts are FAR too narrow to mix with 255 rears and itll understeer like mad. |

If theyre for winter tyres, as opposed simply to winter use, then the OP will need 7"x16" all round.
