Price of a full remap is £300 so I wouldn't want to spend more than £100 on a chip. Only a remap will give the best possible result for your car. They are all slightly different even if standard. Unless you put it on the dyno your shooting in the dark. My car after a full rebuild & new injectors could only manage 112BHP at the wheels. Only the Dyno could show that it wasn't right. Had I just put a chip in it. It would have felt better. But I wouldn't know there was a problem.

ive seen a few diy fit chips promising about 10bhp

A chip on a 2.5 Lux will give you a couple of bhp extra peak power so not very much at all. However most people report the car feels perkier and smoother throughout the rev range. It's also prudent to note that most remapped chips are designed for Super Unleaded to get the benefit, so if you continue to run on standard unleaded you won't get much of a difference at all

As ever, make sure your car is in good condition and achieving the factory power before making any changes.

Are these chips hard to fit? do they require a remap after? i was looking at the pro max chips but i found there web site seemed out of date, all the cars sold were listed years.

I have been told that some of the DIY chips just fool the car into thinking the engine is cold, so it alters the emissions. This cuts back the air and increases the fuel = more bhp. But you have to take it back out for the MOT. But for £100 I would expect a bit more.

Registration is required, dont panic, its free :D

It is a fascinating thread, but I supect flames to break out at any moment with the allegations from Promax.
If proven to be true it may do serious damage to JMG's reputation.

With regards to fitting a chip. It isnt difficult providing you take your time and dont rush. Fitting a chip is straightforward, getting access to it is the tricky bit.

Don't worry; the website is up to date. Chips are only available for the earlier Motronic cars (such as 944, 968 etc). Later cars do not have removable EPROMS and have to be flash upgraded via the OBD2 port.

Andrew
