Post subject:  Whats this switch do?

The switch on the far left in this photo? these are the switches near the ashtray/arm rest in my 1983 944, All 4 switches are wired in but the left most one in the photos doesnt seem to do anything that i can do, any ideas what it should do??

It toggles operation of the auxillary driving lamps mounted in the bumper. Latched on theyll come on with main beam and latched off they wont: but you cant flash your headlamps either.

If it doesnt work then Id suggest that you test all of the earths: theyre terrible and this switch stopping working is a common failing.

yes i must say the thing thats bugged me most with my 944 is the electrics, they are shocking, latest issue is all the gauges deflect by about 5mm when i turn the sidelights or headlights on.

Along with faulty centre console switches; thats a classic sign of a poor earth. 924s and series one 944s have a number of copper earth crowns secured to the bulkhead. Re-earthing these will work wonders.

as in the bank of earths that are screwed to the bulkhead above the glovebox?
