Hi Can anyone help? . Just developed noise from rear of car even when idleing. When i press clutch down noise seems to go.! Paul |

The boxes chatter anyway but it could be release bearing. It could be low on oil as well. The boxes are generally noisy especially with seats down or carpets out. |

Torque tube bearings, don't worry about it they all do it eventually. |

Paul PITA job as the gearbox has to come out! Failure appears to be rare, but if it has just started I'd look at there being oil in the box first. Look at doing it with a clutch change sometime in the future. |

> What is the best gearbox oil and is there a drain and refill plug Most of us run Swepco which is expensive but does quieten the box down & improve the shift, otherwise I'd use a synthetic gearbox oil such as Castrol SMX or Redline etc. Yup drain plug on the bottom of the box & fill on the side. They are 17mm reverse hex. (Big allan key!) they'll be FT so check you can get the fill undone BEFORE you drain it! |
