Never has on any of mine in 35 years of working on motors. Does it leak any oil, are the fumes getting in past the tailgate seal. |

It will drop on the garage floor a oil spot about the size of a 10 pence over a week, it seems to be in the middle towards the front of the engine. The smell does come back in when the roof is up but you can also smell it when you start up and on tick over on the drive. I have cleaned the plugs and been out for a short run 8 miles with no smoke and the smell of oil has dropped, checked the plugs after this run and they are dry, I will take it out for a longer run tomorrow. |

Check for oil leaks onto the exhaust manifold |

Siggys right. If the cambox gasket starts to weep it will gas you long before you notice a leak. If the Power steering pump dies the fluid can blow back onto the exhaust also. Been there. ![]() |

Had it done a few short runs? Some older motors do chuck a bit of oil up past worn rings when cold. |

Hi Jim, Yes, it only gets short runs, the car is on 96K. At the local meet last Monday evening it was pointed out that there are rubber rings under the rocker and if they weep I may put oil onto the plugs? |

A little oil on something hot makes a lot of smell & smoke ![]() |
