Just got back from Birmingham were I've been working this week. Had the chance to drive a Boxter. Interesting comparison with my Lux. First off it feels slower. Very little torque below 4000rpm & only then does it set off. Top end good but not much in it. Either this boxter had a problem (Which is unlikly as its serviced at OPC.) It felt underpowered. Coming out of slow corners or roundabouts I could have it everytime. Only on a fast stretch would it get past me & then the advantage is small. If you want a convertible fine. It's fast enough certainly. But don't swap your lux thinking you want more power. Save up for a 2.7! Stands back & waits to be flamed ![]() |

Umm, I never driven a Porsche Boxster, so can't comment. But I've never even heard of a Porsche Boxter ![]() |

Common complaint by guys who have owned 2.5s then moved onto the 2.7/3.2 but its hard to call a car with over 200bhp underpowered, its just a in comparrison thing, as you said still a quick car. |

the 2.5 boxster isn't very quick, if 0-60 in 7 secs is slow, but being mid-engined should handle pretty well, as does the '44, the boxster has 40 bhp more than a standard 2.5 '44 and weighs just under 100 kilos more so i'm surprised you found it slower than the '44 |

Powerband is much narrower than the '44 so you can be caught out. little torque equals little authority on the road. Difference in power is less than 40 horses at wheels. Boxster puts out 160. My Lux 140 on the same dyno. For sure it handles & stops like a Porsche should. Not saying it's a bad car. In a drag race I would be away first. Then get burnt off when the Boxster got going. But there wouldn't be so much in it. After 20 years thought the difference would have been greater. ![]() Shows what an under-rated car the '44 is ![]() |

![]() Shows what an under-rated car the '44 is ![]() I have had a quick drive of a good 2.7 boxster before (dad used to run one), and i have to ssay that it was absolutely brilliant torque-wise and power-wise. but then I don't really know how it compares to the 2.5? maybe the one you drove had a dodgy MAF or summat? |

![]() Indeed. My 944 has really surprised me with its torque on tap from 2 'and a bit' rpm ![]() |

I've owned my s2 since 08/07 the guy who sold it to me had brought a 2.5 boxter (boxster) for the open roof i think and he claims the s2 was a better built car, and could run rings around the boxster. Fifteen years difference and manufactured different. The s2 being heavier/better built against later fuel ![]() |
