The nearside of my boot carpet just flops down inside the compartment to the side as unlike the offside there is no wooden reinforcement to hold it in place. Is there meant to be something substantial in this side of the boot (like the battery in the later models) or am I missing the wooden bit or has some cheeky bu**er changed my carpets for the ones from a later model?

The wooden bit on that side in my car had gone soft with the amount of water that had leaked in.
Gave up and took the wood off. Need to cut a new piece and glue it in place but keep thinking about using the well underneath for new speakers.

There's nothing in the wells on the early cars. The battery was moved as a weight distribution improvement

The battery was only moved on UK cars. The European cars left it under the bonnet even including 968's. It smacks of Porsche cars GB making up stuff. I think it was done for cost saving otherwise the factory would have done on all the cars.....

A pair of empty wells is best then they can be used for CD players etc.

Good place to put a pair of speakers. 6X9s. So long as your hatch doesn't leak!

Well it seems that there was a bit of wood once upon a time. Luckily I have some plywood lying around that I can cut to shape and glue in place but I think I'll try cleaning the carpet before I get too carried away as it looks like somebody decided to store half the engine in there at some point judging by the oil and rust.

Be careful what you use to clean the carpet, I used 1001 carpet foam on my 924S and it went from black to dark blue stripping the colour out badly so follow the instructions and test first.

Well it's already beige so there isn't a great deal of colour to remove. Besides anything has to be an improvement over its current state.
