I'm getting a chattering noise from my clutch when the pedal is not depressed. The car has just been checked by a specialist prior to me collecting it and apart from a clutch pedal adjustment and a fixed gearbox oil leak nothing showed up with regards to the clutch.

Is this a normal noise from 944's? (its an S2) or is it my clutch on its way out or something minor?

Any ideas....

Thanks

Graham :?

Are you sure it is the clutch? A chatter from the gearbox when in neutral is very common. If it is the clutchit could be the clutch release bearing.

Hi,

I'm with Jim on this one. I get gearbox chatter on my S2 when its ticking over in neutral. Apparently this is a common thing but does sound a bit disconcerting if you're not expecting it or are new to the car. When I first got my S2, I thought the gearbox was going to lunch itself. The sound disappears when I depress the clutch also.

Regards,

Ben :bounce:

Phew! i spoke to the mechanic also and he said it was nothing to worry about and was common.

I guess i'm just going through my new/old car paranoid phase - i break out in cold sweats with the thought of telling wifey it needs money spending on it already....

I know what you mean. My wife thinks my car is all a mindless frivolity. I don't know why us men are so scared of our wives - do we not all work hard enough? Got to spend it on something.
