My 944 S2 1991 has 127,771 miles on the clock. The cam belts were replaced at 116,454 and checked at 119893 OPC. Can anyone tell me when they will next have to be done? I have looked in the 944 2.5 Haynes book and sources online but seem to get conflicting info as to when to do them again. |

Most seem to follow 36K or 3 years, some say 48K or 4 years which I think is the Porsche figure. Although mine are currently on 4 years & 40K. ![]() |

Mine are in there being changed right now, new cambelt, balance shaft belt, two tensioners and three rollers. Got the whole lot for £172 inc vat from ECP. I think Jim is right with the 48000 miles, mines been on there for 53000 miles - naughty boy. However I have read that like everything else they will last longer if the car is driven sensibly, and those that snap do so because of the way the car has been driven - all that racing away at the lights puts extra strain on the belts. Me? I drive like a vicar - as did the first owner of the car, hence still having the original clutch at 190000 miles! It's getting serviced today as well. By the way, I didn't want to be the one to find out how long a cam belt could last for - let somebody who's got 'engine rebuild money' do it! |

John, revs don't affect belt life. Lots of starting the engine especially from cold is a significant factor, as is idling for long periods. Cam loading at low revs is horrendous. |

porsche say 48k or 4 years, as jim says low revs put massive strain on belts due to cam loading, another thing to think about is any unseen oil leaks onto the belt |
