Post subject:  gearbox removal

hi all i have got to drop the gearbox out of my 86 turbo,severe oil leak plus other bits and pieces.how do i support the car while all this is going on.has anybody done this please.while the box is out i will probably refurb the linkages plus brake disks,calipers etc thanks

OK I use the trailing arm mounts as a jacking point & put the axle stands under the trailing arms themselves.
I believe there are instructions for removing & dismantling the box on the web, maybe the pelican site, otherwise download the manual from Rick Cannells site.
Where are the oil leaks? If it's driveshafts they can be done whilst the box is inthe car.

Depends what you have available... I didn't take the wheels off - I just made a couple of pillars of breeze blocks, some ramps and reversed it up onto them. Wheels can stay on, it's easier to take the driveshafts out completely rather than hang them, IMHO. I would also advise taking off the g/box oil cooler on the car - makes the box much easier to handle...

I agree with Jim, find out where your leaks are then you might not have to drop it.
