Post subject:  Hatch Alignment

I'm having a problem with aligning the rear hatch so it closes properly. It's always had a problem unlocking, having to jiggle the hatch until the pins came free. With the fumes problem posted earlier in year I've now fitted new hatch seal, lock seals, lock pin housing and housing seals, new lock pins. The n/s pin is pinching the hatch seal as it closes so will rip another hole in this seal shortly and the pins are just not locating so the lock can work properly. I've tried adjusting the hatch brackets at the roof but the hatch doesn't seem to come back far enough for the pins to clear the hatch seal. Tried moving the locks but this doesn't help with pin clearing the seal so is there a tried and tested method of aligning the hatch or is it trial and error?

Hi Andy,

Looks like you've got the infamous align the boot latches scenario. The way I've been told to do this (although I've not had to do it myself yet) is as follows: -

1) Loosen the latches off slightly so there is a bit of play in the latches.
2) Now shut the boot.
3) Climb inside the car, fold down the rear seats and lie in the boot compartment.
4) You should now be able to access the bolts inside. Tighten them up.
5) Check operation and apply a small amount of copper grease to the latches.

Like I say, I've never tried this but it is supposed to be the quickest and easiest way to do it. Let me know if it works.
