Well the eco cars due a service. Going in tomorrow. I was only saying to my mate Keith that nothing had broken or droped off for awhile.
Tonight on the way home the exhaust blew. Which is dificult as it's nearly all stainless! It's either the front pipes/manifold or the gasket!! Unless the Dansk has died.........
Bummer. Nearly got a stainless manifold a few weeks ago then decided it was a bit OTT. Only good thing is the timing.

It's the Dansk. Thought stainless was suposed to last. Well it's the front box which was sold as Stainless but is in fact mild steel! And it's only 2 years old. Great. It also needs new cv joints both sides. But at least i can get those from GSF with club discount so that won't hurt too much. JMs power steering pump now fitted so fingers crossed as this is the third one. (Other two not from JM.) The casting is different so someone is making nasty copys. Be warned!

Yup noted mine has a line of brown stains on the bottom  Some stainless metals are more equal than others to paraphrase 1984.

CV joints are not too bad, you'll need LOTS of CV joint grease, the new ones will come with some but 4 joints used a 500gram pot virtually!
Oh & you'll have grey/black fingernails for the next 4-5 days  Make sure you get new bolts, some new joints come with 6 new ones others don't.

Yup Bolts are only 50p each from GSF so will get some at the same time. I shouldn't complain. You get what you pay for. & the Dansk was half the price of a pork exhaust. This is the price of using a '44 every day. One thing I missed. One of my new tyres has a big nail in it near the wall. Can't be repaired so the eco car is off the road again awaiting new rubber! :( Not risking a blow out.

Be careful with cheap bolts they should be high tensile 12.9 in bolt terms. I had suspicions that some weren't  The Porscheshop ones that Paul used looked OK, but one broke while he was torquing them up, so the juries out, but I think that was a one off. I had a look at the bolt & it looked as if it had a fault. The ones that were in the OPC CV joint were OK ;-)

Got a price on a new tyre. It's not repairable. £110 just for one. There discontinued & hard to find! Great. So my cheap service will end up at £300 with the CV joints. Do the bolts have self locking nuts? The ones from GSF are just bolts so will need nuts & washers. Berts are £1.50 but I bet you get the nuts as well. I'd get the joints from him but he doesn't do discount & I don't have to pay postage from GSF as theres a local branch. Thanks for the info'

No nuts & washers, just bolts that go into a tapped 'ole. You'll need a good quality 8mm splined key & some brake cleaner to clean the socket out otherwise it'll strip the splines.

They just need regreasing. A good strip, wash out & regrease could be enough.
