Hi all. went on first trackday saturday and had brilliant day. However, I now have an intermittant knocking noise from rear passenger wheel area. Doesn't get worse on cornering, but when occuring gets quicker with forward speed. Haben't had a chance to take wheels off yet but quick inspection appears nothing is loose etc.
The driveshaft on this side seems to slide in and out much easier than the driver side, ie more lateral movement. There doesn't seem to be any excessive play in any other plane.
Before I start to a) cry and b) strip the whole area, any suggestions. Could it be a failing wheel bearing? CV joint?
Thanks

Thats different! Is the shocker ok on that side. Only 2 bolts to take it off & pump it. Maybe the wheel bouncing with a burst shocker. Once had this on a 3 litre Capri. Halfway round a roundabout at the time. Ended up on the verge  (My uncle was driving & hes worse than me.)
Probably Jim will be along in a bit with the correct diagnosis. :D

Probably only a bit of rubber picked up from the track day. Hope so anyway.

Sounds like classic knackered CV joint. Mine clicked & clacked away & had one had grease that looked more like sawdust. Paul's CV joints all had wet grease but one inner had a chip in it & was scrap.
Easy enough to do, new bolts are 1.50ish each (you need 24!) & the joint is around 60 quid. Oh a big pot of Moly grease, although the new joint will come with some.

Could be loose bolts as well, they do come loose occasionally.

Shock absorber wouldn't be speed related & only generally knock when going over bumps.

I once heard a strange noise while on track, it was a dull banging noise........then i realised i had forgot to empty the storage bins in the back wheel arches!

Had some old heavy duty rope banging about in there

Good luck with getting the issue sorted.

Thanks Guys. Got it in the air and no noise on turning the wheel. If you twist the driveshaft as if opening a throttle on a motorbike with moderate force, the drivers side doesn't have movement the passenger side does, so suspect the driveshaft.

Have been quoted £30+VAT for a complete 2ndhand unit from P & H.

Think I'll give it a whirl for 30 quid.

Thanks again

I had a s/h one from PH and it was fine.
Had it on there for about a year before I sold it and had no issues.
