Post subject: | Sunroof alignment??? |
Hi, After getting back from the PCGB show at Harewood, I noticed after parking up that my sunroof (which was open at the time) was higher on one side than the other. Although both arms are raising and lowering normally, the one on the drivers side seems to be retracting all the way back to the position for full removal, and the passenger side stopping as normal in the lock position i.e. when the sunroof is shut, you can push up on the sunroof panel on the drivers side and it is not locked down. Is this a classic case of the white gear cogs are broken? or is there a way to align the sunroof arms correctly? Also, I removed the sunroof panel altogther and noticed that the 2 plastic insert type pieces which the arms slide into are both cracked. These will need replacing but does anyone have the part numbers handy? Regards, Ben ![]() |

Hi Ben, Looks like one of your white cogs is missing its front teeth, this may be down to the sunroof motor not stopping when you send the bars back to remove the roof, if it does not stop it will knock your teeth-out. Try your local OPC my 1st set was from a shop out in the Midlands and I paid double the cost ![]() |

If so I think it 944 564 161 00 L/H & 944 564 162 00 R/H although PET isn't that clear. |

a tip when you replace these gears, remove the panel between sunroof and rear hatch 2 screws (i think, but don't quote me) and then pierce headlining in the 2 areas where the gears fit and remove gears thro' hole rather than try to remove the headlining as you will never be able to refit the headlining under the hatch rubber seal again, the panel removed at the beginning covers the 2 holes |

Had exactly the same at Gaydon, I ended up removing the sunroof for the ride home as I didn't like one side lifting. During playing around looking for the problem I ended up stripping the second gear too. New ones came from ebay for £17. |

Are these the sun roof guides as per the part numbers you gave me??? I think the problem is far worse than I initially thought. The drivers side sunroof arm that lifts the roof panel up is missing several teeth at the mid-point. So I will also have to replace this as well as the white gear cogs. Also, because everything is now out of alignment, when I refit the new parts, how do I get it all aligned so I don't end up stripping all the newly fitted gears??? Also, do I need to replace any microswitches? Regards, Ben ![]() |

Print this off, go to the smallest room in the house & read thoroughly! Pretty sure they are the part no's I quoted. PET isn't that clear to be honest & descriptions are converted from German to Glinglish ![]() http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticle ... unroof.htm |

Hi, Thanks for all you're help. The part numbers you gave me Jim are correct - Also thanks for the procedure from Pelican. Zola has put a copy of his invoice on - thanks also. Porsche call them 'gate guides'. Porsche shop call them 'sunroof guides'. The lifting arms are called segments strangely. So will get new ones on order with a couple of gears also. I think the sunroof has not been locked down on the drivers side for months, now I come to think of it. There was a irritating creaking from that region which stopped when you pressed up on it. Hopefully this will solve all the above problems. Hey ho, more expense - the wife will be chuffed with me! Ben ![]() |
