Hi Guys,

my first post here after getting myself a 944 S2 just before christmas. It's a great car and I'm very pleased with it so far. Just waiting for something to go wrong now  but I know what that's like as I drive an S2 elise too :)

Was wondering about the requirement for servicing and maintenance. Do you guys get your work done at a specialist or is a decent mechanic able to do the job for you. I am wanting to use an independent garage but not sure whether this would be a false economy (although having just been quoted between £80-110 in sussex by specialists for work done I am thinking otherwise)

Hi Welcome to the forum and Porsche ownership.

Independents usually charge about £50 an hour. Rough guide for S2 servicing 12,000 miles service about £250 all in. 24,000 mile £300 all in. Belts every 4 years £300 all in.

If you want to find out about the best places to go for servicing locally, pop along to the local TIPEC meeting.

Derek and Keith are the RO's and the next meeting is Wednesday 9th January at The Shipley Bridge Inn from 19.30 (RH6 9TE).

If you have any more questions fire away.

thanks sean,

Glad to see the local meet is just around the corner from me :D that's about 4 miles away.

The car supposedly has to get it's cam chain replaced asap, belts already done but the guy selling didn't do this for some stupid reason (I don't mind as I hammered him down on the price). Car is in very good shape apart from what I suspect to be a slightly noisey cam chain. It's not my everyday car so not worried about it sitting in a garage to get it done.

I expect there might be a few more gremlins in there once I've opened her up though. But just based on worst case scenario I can't justify putting it into a garage at £80 per hours. That's £1000 just labour to get the cams replaced or am I being tight!

I play with my K series in my elise alot, but just seem scared to jumo into he 944 for some reason. Having doone alot of my own work for so long I forgot the cost of labour!

don't forget to change the cam chain tensioner slipper when you replace the chain, cos it will break up, also the water pump should be changed every second belt change

The airporty guys generally use Sussex Perfomance Centre & I've not spoken to anyone who is unhappy with them.
It's worth having a chat with your local OPC, ours in Tonbridge & I believe the Mid-Sussex one offers a lower labour rate & a discount on bits. For Tonbridge it's £77 Per hours & they have 2 guys who trained on Moses Triumph so know 944/924 very well.

I've heard that Parr in Crawley are quite good too. Stathis took his 968 there the other week.
