I am about to buy brake discs and pads for my S2 (just waiting until I get another issue fixed at the garage). When I bought the car the guy told me the car has the M030 sports option although I kind of suspect it is an aftermarket upgrade. The car has no owners book with the option codes. I believe if it is the M030 option I need different brake discs. Can anyone tell me how I can identify if the brake disk is M030 or not? Also are the pads different or just standard?

Cheers,
Mike

If I remember correctly, the standard callipers bolt onto the back of the hub and the bolts point left to right (horizontally). With M030 callipers, the retaining bolts go vertically through.

Have you looked for a data sticker in the boot under the carpet?

Hope this helps.

Yup M030 callipers are a fair chink bigger as well they're the same as 928 S4. They radially mount unlike the axial mount of all the other callipers. If you can pop a pad out & post it up we'll be able to say. Or take a wheel off & photograph the calliper as best as you can.

Here's a useful picture that shows the difference in size as well as mounting method:

Image

On the right is a 'Baby Black' standard S2/Turbo 220. The bolts pass through from left to right.

On the left is a 'Medium Black' M030/ Turbo 250 calliper. The bolts pass down from the top.

In the middle is a 'Big Black' from 928GTS/993 Turbo. The bolts pass down from the top.

Am I alone in thinking that trying to apply retrospective 'black' names only causes confusion? 'Big Blacks' were the GTS/992T calipers as Paul has stated; but the others are S4/M030 Brembos and 964/951-220 Brembos...

Thanks for all the info. Just had the front wheel off and took some pics. Think they are the standard S2 ones. Can anyone confirm?
