Why didnt the 944 ever age, like all the other cars from the 80-90s? Sierra's, Escorts and all that. The shape still looks modern and still turns heads. I used to have a LHD white cab with late turbo wheels and clear indicators, people couldnt believe it was an 89 model.

I quite agree, it has aged gracefully. Whether it is the fact that it is a Porsche & therefore quite exclusive in peoples eyes has helped I'm not sure. It is also a very practical car being quite a big hatch.
It was the same when I had the TR7 older people were quite dismissive but youngsters all thought it was a great modern shape!

Absolutely agree. Just taken my brother in law out this weekend who hadn't seen mine yet and he was amazed. Even more so when I told him how much when he's just paid a shed load of money for a Focus ST (Sanitory Towel). He couldn't believe my 'Blue Rocket' was 20 years old. The classic insurance just stuck the knife in a bit more :D Love the shape, love the sound, love the mechanical grip and performance.

Hi All,

I find my 944 is still a head turner with people of all ages - either that or they're looking at the trail of fluids coming out from behind the car  . I recently had to decline an offer made on the car. I guy offered me 2 old Cortinas and some pictures of his wife naked as a fair exchange for my 944!

This is exactly why I love the car. It’s aged more gracefully than anything else out there. Except maybe a Morgan …

Wasn't the Morgan pre-aged when it was first built?

Exactly! All it’s acquired since then is patina.

Actually, this a wee bit off topic, but has anyone else seen the new AC Cobra that’s coming in a year or two? Not a replica, but an actual Cobra. Choice of two Corvette engines, Porsche brakes, modern electrics, original body style. Looks lovely.

Back on topic. It's the shape that got me. Was trawling ebay for somthing sensible. Hit the link for sports cars after getting bored. Bought mine :bounce: Was a bit :drunken: Won't tell you what mrs JJ said.
Not heard about the Cobra poprock. You got a link for that?

Here’s the details of the Cobra.

Funnily enough, my first 944 purchase was similar. The wife and I were browsing eBay after a few (or many) drinks and the realisation that I could actually afford a Porsche, of all things, made me decide to buy my first car (I’d been driving company and hire cars for years).

Sorry a Cobra with a Corvette engine is wrong, they were built around Fords & should stay that way.

I also think the car has aged beautifully. Pleased to see that for once Clarkson also agrees (at least on the turbo).

The other thing for me, and this applies to the 928 also, is that they managed to keep it looking 'current' for nigh on 15 years of it's production life; with only minor modifications to front/back mouldings. So the MUST have got it right at the beginning.
