Anyone got ideas on where to start looking for fumes coming into the cabin especially when giving it a bit of welly. Should I look at seals or ventilation ducting? Gotta sort it out before I pass out

Tailgate seal or latches not latching properly. Either way drawing in exhaust fumes through the tail gate area.

Thanks Jim, should of done me search before. Found topic discussed last July. Place called Forestfine mentioned so just looking at there site now. Do sunroof seals aswell Might be able to sort two problems in one go.

Check out some of the indies & your OPC for seals, they can be cheaper! OPC can be cheaper than you think especially with TIPEC discount.

Edited to say check the tailgate is correctly shut & the latches are pulling it down.

Check the rear lamps are sealed

I've found this problem seems more pronounced if you have a window or the sunroof open. It somehow seems to suck the fumes in on my car.

Well checked the hatch today and found o/s hinge was well loose. Realigned the hatch and tightened down then fiddled with the lock positions and pin. Hatch now shuts and unlocks well and cured the rattle which I thought was the rear seat
Can you tell me if these seals around the latch pins look right? I think they look like they should go all way round and some of it has broken off, I can certainly see daylight through the seal at these points.







Light fittings look well secure and sealed. Sunroof fitment isnt fixed at moment so thats next.

The seal around the lock opening looks poorly. Not sure about the latch seal, pretty sure it's OK but I'd have to go & look at mine & it's freezing out there!

Yup it will create negative pressure in the cabin, drawing fumes in the hatch area. Run some talc onto the body & vaseline on the seal & see where it does & doesn't touch. I'd guess the seal isn't in the best of health or the latches need adjusting.

You were posting while I was writing message, Sunroof is my next port of call. As I've said in another topic my replacement sunroof doesn't fit very well but this problem has only just started and sunroof has been in 6 months or so. Just wanted to clear up other possible areas first. I think it's where I'm using the car after it has stood for 4 years and I'm finding every seal and god knows what else is knackered and falling off. At least it goes well, except for the oil leak and wheel judder but thats another topic

EERRRR talc on body and vaseline. Have I got the right site

Its unlikely that the fumes are entering through the sunroof seal.
The fumes will be entering somewhere around the exhaust tail pipe, assuming that the exhaust is not blowing.

Nah getting convinced it's the hatch seal but trying to find a pic of that rubber around the latch, looks like it should go all round which would make sense.

Ben mines losing oil all around Somerset and Dorset. 3 litres of oil in 700 miles JMG has replaced every seal on the engine as far as I know and the warning light came on AGAIN yesterday. Oil top up with every fuel fill up at moment. Going back in next Saturday for 3rd time
Fix 1 fault find 2 more but when it's all eventually done ...................
