Hi all,

I've always read things about people insuring their 944's on classic policies but i'm finding it impossible.

It's my main car thats used for commuting. 27. 8YR NCB. clean licence ect.

tried heritage, footman james, adrianflux.

Is it all a big myth?

For most classic polices you need to have another car insured, the classic car is meant to be a weekend toy for pleasure only and travelling to work is not allowed.
Also between the hours of 7pm and 7 am if its parked within 2 miles of your home it has to be garaged.

Personally I found it cheaper than a standard policy.

I am not certain but when I insured my 924S for my Mother in Law to use for a year I went through Carole Nash but could only get Classic insurance because she still had the use of another car and the Porsche was considered a second car. So it might be due to the fact that it is your daily driver that stops you getting classic insurance. I got my 944S2 insured fully comprehensive £200 excess NCD protection legal assistance for £170 with Adrian Flux but I am older than you 47 with over 10 years no claims discount.

:?: Many classic policys won't touch you until your over 40! (There have to be some benifits!) You also need a fairly clean licence & lots of no claims. Standard policys shouldn't be too bad for you.

Sorry mate your talking bobbins on several points.

I've had Classic policies for over 10 years (I'm now 40), always had points (9 best haul) and you don't need any no claims.

What you do need is a good alarm, a garage and not to want to use it for work. Some will waive the need for the garage.

I know several people who are using Hagerty on 944T's (modified) for £150 fully comp.

I can't understand why you're having problems. I'm with Heritage, £190 fully comp., including to and from work, no garage. You also don't need NCB for classic policies for some reason.

What reason are they giving you for refusing you?

You also get discount for being a club member 8)

That's the big problem.

Generally speaking a classic policy cannot be your main car and cannot be used for commuting and will have a maximum mileage of around 5k per annum as well as a number of other restrictions.

My Turbo is on a classic for £400 p.a

Sean. My car is my daily drive. I Don't have a garage it lives on the street. No claims is a requirement as is my age. part of the policy. Max 3 pts. Cat 1 alarm yes I missed that. Can't use for work but I can use to travel too & from work. It was hard to find a policy to do this but I did! This is just from my experience but it seems others differ. Requirements change from year to year.

Hi chaps,

Thanks for the responses,

I can get insurance with privilege for 600 quid so it's not life or death i find a classic policy, just wondered if i could save a few quid!

I prob do 10K a year. no garage but car does have cat 1 and it lives in a gated land behind my house.

Scho. I'm with Footman James. Heritage wouldn't quote for me. NIG Classic policy. 10K miles. That & the Comute is why it costs double! Really it's just a standard policy with agreed value added on. It's possible they don't do it anymore for new business. I already claimed over 1K on it for a new windscreen so there not making anything out of me. Strange as you tried them already. :?

Try an enquiry with AON, its not a classic policy but slightly resricted, I can use to commute, unlimited mileage, no garage. Under£150.

Try Lancaster mate. They did mine for £126 with commuting, Cat 2 immobiliser and 5K miles a year but other mileages can be selected and I don't think you gave to have a garage. No NCB required either.
