No better way to bring a smile on the daily commute, much better than a eurobox. Savings on the classic insurance and initial outlay will cover running costs
surely yoe would rather drive round in something like this.

Very much so. My Lux was my daily driver for 18months & did 38K in that time. All it needed was servicing & a clutch slave. In fact even now I've only just started putting new bits on it which are CV joints. |

Yes, very much so The R. O. for Central Region does about 100 miles per day in his as a daily driver, between home and work. You might hear from him on here soon |

My '82 944 has been my daily driver for the last month and is much better behaved now that it is out and about  Getting rid of all the niggles and running far better than the last 15 years when it was sat around  Glad to be getting rid of the Golf. |

i run an 88 turbo. and yes, it does make sense. PS...where are people getting there classic insurance policies that include commuting? |

Most classic policies exclude anything other than SDP, at that point it becomes normal cover. It might be worth phoning one of the bigger ones to see if they can give you some of the classic bits, such as buy back & agreed value. Also bear in mind that if you visit different locations rather than one office then you need Class 1 Business cover. |

I used my 924S for 3 years as my daily driver then gave it to my Mother in Law to use for a year while I used my 944S2 which I have used for the last year, around 6-7K miles per year. In the last 4 years I have only done usual servicing such as oil/filter, tyres, plugs, distributor etc and brake pads plus discs. The other expenses have been things which I wanted to do to enhance the car not necessarily to keep it going. Comparing the initial outlay for both cars was around £6 this works out at around £125/month excluding service items which is around 1/3 of what I was paying per month to have the privilege of driving a boring (but practical) Citroen. |

I was at the same point as you about 8 months ago. I was the owner of a 12 month old Audi that I had bought via a personal contract plan that was dropping at the rate of hundreds of pounds each month. I needed to reduce my monthly outgoings (anyone heard of the credit crunch..?) and had a budget for a replacement vehicle of approx £5k. The S2 I found has served me well for the past 6 months during which time I have covered approx 8k miles without issue. The only advice has to be source the best you can for the money and find one which has been cherished as mine was. I have no regrets, better handling, equal performance, impressive fuel consumption and a car that gains far more admiration than the Audi ever did! - Good luck. Marcus |

I use mine for the comute. Classic insurance agreed value via NIG including modifications no problem. You do have to budget on £1500 a year for maintenance (It's gone up thanks to the exchange rate as most bits come from Germany.) They tend to run for ages not needing much then you can get a big bill. Spent plenty on mine but it's still cost less than Ford Focus & is a lot of fun. They like regular use & longer runs are better. Less than 10 miles & the MPG takes a bashing. Be carful if you go for an S2 as cams are now Very expensive & many cars have reached an age were they need new ones. Don't right off the 8v without trying one. |
